2006 Photographer of the Year John Hall being presented with his awards by our President Jim Gorry Click HERE to see more photographs, a page of thumbnails will open - click on one of the thumbnails to enlarge it then scroll back and forwards through them all by clicking the little arrows. People of Peel A selection of Peel Characters and Personalities photographed by members of the Western (IOM) Photographic Society and sponsored by Peel Heritage Trust. In the IOM Examiner 10th Jan 2006 there is over half a page covering the exhibition. Visit to the Southern Photographic Society - 29th November 2005 Many of our members enjoyed our annual visit to the Southern Photographic Society. Firstly we were entertained with a slide show by Mike Goldie in his usual humorous, interesting and entertaining style, then Doug and Eddie "volunteered" to judge a print competition for the SPS. This they did in fine style, especially considering they only set eyes on the entries moments before judging. The photos are (from the left) Brian and Mike Goldie, Doug and Eddie judging, and Peter giving a well received vote of thanks - oh, and Marshall having a slurp! Celtic Challenge - September 2005
The Isle of Man Celtic Challenge scores and the overall result can be found HERE
L&CPU
Certificate Presentations Russell Gilmour, Barbara Spiers and John Hall being presented with their certificates by Mr David Marsh, President of the L&CPU at Peel Centenary Centre on the Opening Night of our 2005 - 06 season.
Laxey and
Snaefell Members had a good time on their visit to Laxey and Snaefell, but with people going away etc. the group was a bit small. The trip on the Snaefell Tram was good for taking photographs from the carriage. The weather at the top could have been better, so we just enjoyed refreshments before returning to Laxey where the weather was nice and sunny. We then enjoyed more refreshments and then a trip on the Great Laxey Mine Railway, operated by the Laxey and Lonan Heritage Trust, with train drivers Andrew Scarffe and Stewart Bridson.
Report and photographs from Dorothy Flint Visit to the
Wildlife Park Our visit to the Wildlife Park was very enjoyable, the sun was shining and we all took lots of photos. We set a "tongue in cheek" challenge to spot the Giraffe - did anyone see one? Here are some photographs - who is the stranger (seen outside the Lakeside Cafe) trying to share Trevor and Dorothy's lunch?
Visit to
Corrin's Folly Ten members enjoyed a walk up Peel Hill and to see the inside of Corrin's Folly. Thanks to Peter Hughes and John Hall for organising this outing.
Gaiety
Theatre and Camera Obscura A very interesting and enjoyable visit to the Gaiety was enjoyed by 15 of our members, this was followed by lunch at the Sea Terminal and then most members went on to visit the recently refurbished Camera Obscura. Another very successful and enjoyable outing, thanks to Ruth for arranging everything and to the Gaiety Theatre staff.
Barbecue 10th July 2005 The WPS Barbecue was held at Longacre, the home of John and Diane Hall. The weather couldn't have been better and we all had a wonderful time. Here are a selection of photos. Tynwald Day 2005
Orchid
and Curragh Walk 13 of our members braved the midges on a cloudy but warm evening and enjoyed a visit to the Orchid fields and a walk through the curragh guided by John "Dog" Callister. John's enthusiasm, immense knowledge of the area and all the flora and fauna kept us entertained for a very enjoyable couple of hours or so. The evening was rounded off with a well earned drink in a nearby pub. Thanks to Hannah for organising this outing and to John Callister who is certainly "top dog" where the curragh is concerned. We all enjoyed it very much and look forward to visiting the area again very soon, no doubt armed with tripods and macro lenses.
The photos
show our group on the viewing platform above the hide, our guide
John Callister, and one of the hundreds of orchids we saw. WPS Members in the Parish Walk Here are photos of Doug
and Eddie in the Parish Walk on 25th June, both walked the full
distance of 85 miles. Doug now has five finishes and Eddie two.
Another walker in their team (Brenda Charleton) also completed the
full distance which gave them 6th place in the team results.
The third photo shows all three at the presentation. Congratulations to all on a marvellous achievement.
Maritime
Exhibition Thanks to John Hall we were privileged to have a stand at this exhibition which was organised by the Rotary Club in aid of Sailing for the Disabled. Have a look at the last entry for our 2004 - 05 year (link
at top of page). It was the first occasion we used our digital projector and
laptop computer.
