Optics, Onchan Dr. Helmut Kessler gave us a very informative introduction into their manufacturing processes and the type of products they produce. All very high tech, and to an incredibly high standard of tolerance. The tour covered their production of the highest quality lenses etc and was an insight into another world of optics which most of us had no knowledge whatsoever. It also showed how a world leader in their field goes almost unnoticed on our Island whilst are recognised for their expertise worldwide. Later we retired to La Piazza, for what has now become our almost traditional “after visit” meal. Thanks once again to Doreen for organising a very informative outing for our Members.
Ayres wildlife
area and lakes After an outing here last summer in poor weather conditions, we were rewarded with sunshine and blue sky this year. There was plenty of plants and flowers to photograph, the conditions were still tricky for those close up shots with the blustery breeze. Nevertheless we had a very enjoyable hour or two and finished off with the now customary meal, this time at the Raven.
Tynwald Day Our display in the Homecomers Marquee at Tynwald. Thanks for the hard work by all those involved in organising the display and to the members who contributed photographs.
Wild Flowers
and Orchids at the Observatory, Foxdale Our members enjoyed a visit to the Observatory near Foxdale, James Martin kindly invited the WPS to see the wild flowers and orchids in the meadow at the observatory. James also gave a talk and demonstrated some equipment used at the observatory including a special filter enabling the sun to be viewed through a telescope and a camera and software used to capture and produce photos of space. The outing ended in the now customary and enjoyable manner - a meal, this time at the Hawthorn Inn. Special thanks to James Martin, and to Doreen and Dennis for organising the outing.
