Oh Dear !.....will this be beaten or should I say will this be lowered - 5pts. for a comp. entry? This record could stand for some time...although I hope not ! I will provide a wooden spoon if someone does manage to score lower. Doug..

Hello everyone,Just thought you might like me to write down how to make pictures the right size and resolution for putting on a CD for a competition. So here goes. These are instructions for Photoshop and Elements, but whatever programme you use, the size of each image needs to be the number of pixels that I explain below.

1. First of all make a new folder wherever you want your collection of pictures for the CD to be kept  Label the folder so you can identify it later.

Please include your name, so that I know whose images they are.

2. Make a copy of your image, and give it a title Close the original down to save getting them muddled up.

3. Go to Image,--Image Size, and make sure there is a tick in the Resample Image box and the Constrain Proportions box. Then change the Resolution to 72 pixels/inch, and at the top, the Width to 1024 pixels for a landscape shaped picture or the Height to 768 pixels for a portrait shot. Don't try to set both of these, one or the other depending on the shape of your image. Check that neither dimension is greater than these numbers. Then click on OK.

4.Save the new picture as a jpg in the new folder you made. When you get the JPEG Options box, choose 12 for the Quality, put a dot in Progressive and choose 5 for Scans. I'm not sure that these last 2 settings matter, but that's what I always do, you are choosing the highest settings to minimise the amount of fine detail that gets lost when making a jpeg.

5. Do the same with all pictures you want to enter.

6 That's it, except for burning the folder to the CD. Please put your name on the CD too.

Good luck, Ruth

I was in Peel and the IOM in July 2005 for the home coming. I was in Peel Visiting Peel Castle on July 7 the day of the Londom bombings. My great-grandfather Thomas Kelly was from Ballacallin Cottage, Dalby. My grandfather, Robert Kelly lived in Peel at 45 Michael St & 6 Stanley Road. My father Robert Cecil Kelly left Peel in 1911. I am Honorary President of The North American Manx Ass'n & President of Chicago Manx Society. I did not learn of your group & Peel Heritage Society until 4 Nov, 2005. I would like to find out more about Peel and would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Just to say that the digital members night was excellent, I hope I can remember all that was shown to us. Thanks to Ruth and Gordon and everyone else involved, again it was an excellent evening.

Just found this site whilst surfin' and thought I'd say "Hi" to all my auld pals up North (well, it is, compared to Port Erin!!). Yup, I'm back home on the Island and hope to be able to pop up to see you all again some time - if you'll have me. Please let me know when you reconvene after the summer break. Regards, Boakesey

In response to Tricia's message, I must say it is not difficult being enthusiastic when I get such a good response from all of you. You should all be proud of yourselves and the club, we did extremely well in the L&CPU Annual. So many people entered, and so many got good marks, remember it's out of 15 not 20. Folk with lower marks mustn't be discouraged, you will get better I promise. We sent in 87 pictures, our sister club managed 68. PLEASE can I have as good a response for the Celtic Challenge in August. I'll let you know when our entry comes back from the L&CPU, the best thing would be to choose from those for the C C.

Well done to everyone who submitted images to the L&CPU Annual Competition, particularly those who have had photos retained for the folios. Hearty congratulations to John for his success with 'Rib Racing' -and best wishes for further success with that print. Thankgoodness we have a competition secretary with the enthusiasm to encourage us to compete!

This is an example message. If you haven't already done so, we would love to see your comments submitted.
